Welcome to a 4th quarter like no other!
Governor Doug Ducey and Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman today announced the extension of Arizona school closures through the end of the school year. The extension follows updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and an announcement from the White House extending physical distancing guidelines until April 30, 2020. Today’s announcement applies to Arizona public schools, both district and charter. Private schools are required to remain closed in alignment with federal guidance recommending closures through at least April 30. School leaders have the option of announcing closures through the end of the year or waiting for additional guidance. https://azgovernor.gov/governor/news/2020/03/governor-ducey-superintendent-hoffman-announce-extension-school-closures The WCA Leadership Team and school board has prayerfully decided that the best course of action for WCA is to extend our blended/online classroom model through the end of the school year and keep the WCA campus closed. This decision is intended to provide continuity and long-term planning for our staff, students, and families to maintain a regular schedule without fear of the unknown or disruption of education. Decisions regarding year end activities, such as graduation, promotion, and award ceremonies, are still pending. The leadership team and board will make those decisions as the time gets closer for those events. Our teachers are still working full time, spending most of their days preparing, recording, holding live classes, correcting papers – all on a very steep learning curve! We appreciate all they are doing to keep our students actively learning and keeping up with schoolwork. To that end, yes, WCA is still collecting tuition. Though your student is not on campus, they are still receiving their education through the best options we have available. As the weeks progress, we anticipate more interaction with students, and regularly scheduled pick up times for continued classwork. We understand that the closures are hitting everyone hard. If you have concerns over how to pay your tuition, please contact us in the WCA office. We work closely with our Student Tuition Organizations to acquire additional funds for families in hardship, and we are happy to help on your behalf. It is our greatest joy to be able to work together with you for the benefit of our students. Please look for a survey coming at the end of this week to be able to give feedback on the new learning style. Be sure to communicate with your teachers regularly and look for news each day from WCA. We’re all in this together, and we look forward to continuing to work with you all in this new adventure. Please contact us with any questions, concerns, or suggestions as we continue to move forward together! WCA Staff & Board
