At Wickenburg Christian Academy we view education from a perspective that takes into account the "whole" spectrum of school life, from the preschooler through the high school graduate. It is our prayer that the quality of Christian education and leadership that we promote will propel our students further in their goals with an advanced development.
Highlight on Preschool
A bright new year has begun for WCA’s Little Learners Preschool program with new teachers, updated classrooms and technology additions, and lots of new student faces.
The Little Learners’ staff is a “family-affair” team of teachers who have been at WCA for several years in different capacities, keeping up a legacy with their families.
Kristin Truxal is a new head teacher this year for the 4s and 5s classroom. Both of her children attend Legacy Secondary; her husband is a member of the WCA governing school board; and they are all active in PTF and various activities and volunteer opportunities around campus.
Sidney Jones has been at WCA wearing many different “hats” over the last 10 years, starting out as an art and PE teacher and eventually adding preschool teacher as well as archery coach and event planner. Her journey with WCA originally began when her own daughter attended WCA years ago, and WCA has been blessed to have her stay. She is the head teacher for the 3s and 4s class this year, as well as lead teacher for the preschool.
Leigh Tyrell is taking on a more regular role as an assistant teacher in the afternoons at Little Learners this year, after 2 years of substitute teaching and other help around campus. Many locals will know Mrs. Tyrell from her years as the Wickenburg postmistress; after retiring, she became involved at WCA because of her granddaughter, who is currently attending.
WCA/Legacy Secondary alum Heather Bailey is a welcome new addition as an assistant teacher this year. Heather graduated from Legacy in 2015, and after a year at an out-of-state college has returned to Arizona to go to school part time and work mornings with the Little Learners program.
Thanks to the Wellik Foundation grant received last school year, the preschool has been able to add kid-friendly iPads equipped with educational apps to the list of fun things to do in class. The classrooms have also been updated with new toys and play areas, improving their open, safe, and friendly environments.
While the 4s and 5s classroom is currently full, there are still a few openings left in the 3s and 4s room. There are some scholarships available for preschool families, and Little Learners is currently offering a special discount of $50 off the first month if a new student enrolls before October 1.
